PERSONAL WHOLE-BODY DOSIMETRY
Monitoring is provided by film or thermoluminescent dosimeters.
The dosimeters are sealed in plastic cassettes and are worn at the reference site – the left side of the chest.
The dosimeters are changed either monthly or quarterly – depending on the monitoring programme set.
The dosimeters are always sent by post on the agreed date.
Film dosimeters allow us to determine, in addition to the dose:
– the dominant direction from which the dosimeter was irradiated
– the type and energy of radiation
– the temporal nature of the exposure (short-term vs. long-term)
Film dosimeters are archived and can be re-evaluated if necessary.
Range of measurements:
– Photon energy (gamma, X-ray): 12 keV – 15 MeV
– Electron energy: 0.3 MeV – 15 MeV
– Dose range: 0.02 mSv – 1.5 Sv
